How do foreigners use DiDi in China?
Foreign visitors can often use DiDi with a foreign mobile number and an international card, but setup, pickup points, and address handling are easier if you prepare before your first ride.

Setup before the ride
Install DiDi or access it through a supported local app flow before you need a late-night ride. Add a payment method, confirm SMS access, and save your hotel address in Chinese.
If you are arriving at an airport or rail station, expect designated pickup zones. The app pickup point may not be the same as the curb directly outside your door.
Address workflow
Use Chinese addresses whenever possible. Copy them from your hotel, local map app, booking confirmation, or a message from the venue.
When the driver calls or messages, keep the conversation simple. Hotel staff, station staff, or a translation app can help if the pickup point is confusing.
When to choose metro instead
For central-city trips during traffic peaks, the metro can be faster and more predictable than ride-hailing. DiDi is strongest for late arrivals, luggage, rain, or places not close to a station.
Keep another payment path available. If the ride payment fails, you do not want to troubleshoot with luggage at a pickup zone.
